Starting Soon: Northern Jennings Lodge (LS2) Sewer Improvement Project

We're continuing our sewer improvement work across Jennings Lodge in the Lift Station 2 basin, which spans the Concord and Jennings Lodge areas.

Project Overview

We'll continue to repair or replace sections of approximately 60-year-old wastewater main pipes. This project is part of our larger Inflow & Infiltration (I&I) Reduction Program.

I&I is a problem where old, damaged pipes become inundated with excess water during heavy rain. Cracks or other deficiencies allow groundwater to seep into wastewater main pipes, resulting in significantly higher-than-normal flows. The sudden influx can overwhelm the treatment plant systems, potentially resulting in raw sewage overflowing into the river.

The result: Replacing or repairing faulty pipes reduces the need for frequent, costly “Band-Aid fixes” and protects our precious rivers by keeping raw sewage out.

Potential Project Impacts

We have carefully planned to minimize disruptions; however, affected areas may experience delays and temporary road or lane closures. During construction, heavy equipment and materials will be in the work area, which will be marked with cones and/or caution tape. There may also be some noise and dust during construction hours.

On-site crews will communicate directly with homeowners about any direct impacts.

If you're experiencing impacts beyond what's typical for construction, please contact us directly.

Project Schedule

Schedule Lookahead

Once construction is scheduled to start, we'll provide a general lookahead.

Private Improvements in Public Right-of-Way

In some locations, crews must work outside the public right-of-way in areas called easements or within undeveloped public right-of-way. Work crews will coordinate with homeowners with easements in or near their property.

Using New Technology to Drive Efficiency

For this project, we will use pipe bursting and pipe lining methods to replace faulty portions of existing mains. These are less costly and invasive alternatives to traditional methods, where a trench must be dug to remove the damaged section of the pipe.

In pipe bursting, a special machine pulls a new pipe through the damaged section, breaking it open.

Pipe lining is a method that uses a special lining to coat the inside of damaged pipes, protecting against cracks and other damage without requiring a full replacement.
