Heavy Rains Cause Sanitary Sewer Overflows on March 12, 2026

A Sanitary Sewer Overflow Advisory is issued, warning about potential sewer issues, dated March 12, 2026.

(March 12, 2026) – OLWS staff are currently responding to two sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs) caused by heavy rains. The following locations are affected:

  • OLWS Lift Station 2 (located at approximately 1706 SE Oak Shore Ln.) with impacts to the Willamette River
  • OLWS Lift Station 3 (located at approximately 2704 SE Park Ave.) with impacts to Kellogg Creek

The overflows began at approximately 3:30 A.M. and crews are currently working to address the issue as heavy rains continue.

Sanitary sewer overflows occur when untreated sewage discharges into waterways or streets. During an overflow and for 48 hours afterwards, the public is advised to avoid contact with standing water, creeks, and the river due to potentially elevated bacteria levels. Staff have placed signs at the spill sites to inform the public to avoid contact with the water.

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and other partner agencies connected with the Willamette River have also been notified.
