Shut-off valves quickly stop water during an emergency

An emergency shut-off valve completely stops the flow of water to your home or business. This is important in situations such as a burst pipe, which can quickly cause flooding and property damage.

The best time to find your shut-off valve is before an emergency happens! Take a moment to locate it so you're ready to respond in an emergency. Make sure all family members, roommates, or colleagues also know where it is.

Look for your shut-off valve in these locations

• In the crawl space or basement, where the water line enters the home.
• In the garage where the water line enters the wall or ceiling, near the water heater or laundry hookup.
• Outside near the foundation, often protected by a concrete ring or clay pipe.
